2011 WIND TURBINE SCHEDULE (limit 12)
(COMPETENT CLIMBING)
Mon - Friday, 7:00 am-4 pm each day - 100% Attendance is required
 

RE: Wind Turbine (Competent Climbing) ~ This class will consist of four components and will be recognized nationally by the IBEW.  It is intended to prepare IBEW members with the erection of wind turbines, which is sometimes done by specialty contractors.  The four components are as follows:  Competent Climber/Rescuer; Medium Voltage Cable Splicing; First Aid/CPR and, Code of Excellence.

You will be required to climb the tower three (3) times within nine (9) minutes on the first day of this rigorous course; This class requires the proper work attire so, please come prepared (i.e., work clothing, work boots, gloves, etc.).

The course will begin with four modules, in the following order:

  • Module I which is the competent climber/rescuer.  It is sixteen hours in length and will require each individual to climb (three) times up and down with approximately five lbs. added to each climb and must be completed within nine (9) minutes.  The height is fifty-two feet.  The module covers fall protections, hand signals, rigging practices and knots, grounding, etc.   It will also include proper selection and use of climbing equipment and qualification by climbing in the climbing silo.

 

  •  Module II will be sixteen hours of medium voltage cable splicing and testing

 

  • Module III will be First Aid/CPR (if you have a current card you will not need to take this module)

 

  • Module IV will be four hours of the Code of Excellence

  
After completing all requirements, an IBEW Wind Certification Card will be issued to you with your name and IBEW Local card number.


 You must contact the Warren JATC at 330-394-3690 to register for classes. The JATC will provide you with hotel information.

 PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS:
This course covers fundamentals of PV systems and equipment, and code-compliant installation requirements for residential and commercial installations. Lesson plans in the workbook parallel chapters in the text and provide an overview of curriculum materials including course textbook, student workbook, lab manual, instructor guide and presentation materials. The course format includes classroom instruction and hands-on interactive lab exercises using state of the art equipment and materials. Sample lab exercises cover variations on equipment and procedures that are used to meet learning objectives. Emphasis is also placed on how to achieve nationally recognized credentials.

  • The Ohio GROWS grant will provide training in three (3) areas: Photovoltaics, Wind Turbine Certification, and Building Automation.

     Photovoltaics, Wind Turbine Certification, and Building Automation classes:  The grants-in-aid will be $400 but you must complete 100% of the class in order to receive the grants-in-aid. 100% completion of the class for reimbursement also applies to hotel expenses, per diem and mileage.

    When registering participants for the Wind or Photovoltaic training at the Toledo JATC, you must also send a completed Ohio GROWS application form. You may fax the applications to Cyndi Wellington at 419-666-0336. Please indicate on the fax cover sheet which class (wind or PV) and the class dates your members are registered for. The Toledo JATC is no longer able to accept class reservations over the phone without an accompanying Ohio GROWs application.  Thank you!
